It’s and @kingbluesband double header today. Album review in my previous post. . Last night The King Blues took the Camden Underworld stage to play for the first time in about a year to sell out crowd – many of whom (yours truly included) wearing Hawaiian shirts to mark the occasion. On the bill was 38 Minutes, their latest album (see precious post) in full, before a full King Blues set of their hits. . It was like they’ve never been away. I remember seeing them at Glastonbury about 10 years ago and it was an incendiary performance and this show showed the same energy and commitment to the show. . The first part was accompanied by a paper puppet projected show while the band plays to the side. The album worked well live and it was a faithful rendition with some nice touches like Itch donning a Hawaiian style dressing gown for Ain’t Getting Out Of Bed and throwing flyers into the audience for the fictional band Boomer and the Severed Goats Head. . An interval to get refreshments and merch was followed by a Play the Hits setlist from their beloved back catalogue. The only song missing for me was What If Punk Never Happened but the delightful surprise of the set closer Off With Their Heads more than made up for it. Otherwise all the hits were present and correct and had the crowd rowdy throughout save for the ukulele solo section of Shooting Facists and Lampost Light for which he was accompanied by an eager fan providing smoke effects by way of a vape pen. . I can tick an Underworld mosh pit off my tick list and the venue itself remains a fantastic small venue for the heavier side of music. . Swipe for the setlist. Find their records on Spotify. This band are under rated and I hope they can return to full strength in the next few years. . #livemusic #concertreview #camdenunderworld #theworldsend #thekingblues #38minutes #hawaiianshirts #punkrock #skapunk #ukulelerock
